How do university admissions work in Spain?

Hi!

So I'm a foreigner, I took the selectividad and applied for medicine to a bunch of universities in Spain and I have questions.

How does the process work? For example, if a university has 100 spots, do they make a ranking of the students that applied based on their grade and then take the first 100?

I suppose that out of those 100 that are taken, some will end up choosing another university right? So are there waiting lists in case a spot opens?

The notas de corte that are on some websites, are they just an indication? Are they just the grade of the last student that was taken the year before? Or are they a guarantee? Like if my grade is higher than the nota de corte, will I necessarily be accepted or does that depend on the grades of the other students?

Thank you very very much!

Hi!

If the university has 100 spots, they will assign them to the 100 students with the highest grade (and yes, there are waiting lists).

The "notas de corte" are only a reference, having a higher grade does not guarantee anything, it will depend on the rest of the grades.

Regards!
